Layora Melbourne - Our Story
It started with a mirror.
Margaret was standing in a fitting room, for the third time that week. Her granddaughter was getting married, and she wanted to look beautiful. Not young. Just beautiful. Like herself.
But every dress was too short, too tight or too revealing. And the dresses made for “women her age” were grey, baggy and shapeless. As if she didn’t matter anymore.
She stepped out with tears in her eyes.
“I don’t recognise myself anymore,” she said softly.
Her daughter Lynette was standing right there. And in that moment, something broke.
Because this was the woman who had taught her to ride a bike. Who had plaited her hair on her first day of school. Who had always, always shone at every family table. And now she felt invisible.
That evening, at the kitchen table, they made each other a promise.
Together, they would find clothes that make women like Margaret feel beautiful again.
That’s how Layora began.
Today, we still choose every piece together. Margaret feels the fabric, tries it on and looks in the mirror. Lynette watches her face.
Because that is our only test: does she smile?
Sleeves that gently flatter your arms.
Fabrics that feel soft against your skin.
A waistline that shapes, without squeezing.
Pieces that are easy to slip on, and stay comfortable all day long.
If she doesn’t smile, it doesn’t make the cut.
And when you send us a message, we read it ourselves. At the same kitchen table where it all began.
Because elegance has no age.
And every woman deserves to look in the mirror and think: there she is again.
With love,
Margaret & Lynette
